Overview
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Founded in 1876, the University if Bristol was granted its Royal Charter in 1909 and has a distinguished academic history reflected partly in the Nobel Prizes and Fellowships associated with the University community. International students currently make up around 16% of the students body and come from over 100 countries. The University offers a wide range of courses in the Faculties of Arts, Engineering, Medicine and Dentistry, Medical and Veterinary Sciences, Science and Social Sciences and Law.

The largest city in the south west of England, Bristol is a leading centre in the region for business, culture and education. Both ancient and modern, this is a city in which history and technology sit side by side. Bristol is about 100 miles west of London and linked by a 90 minute train journey between Brunel’s historical stations; Temple Meads and London Paddington. The West Country, Wales and the Cotswolds is also easily accessible. London Heathrow Airport is just 2 hours by road and Bristol International Airport is 20 minutes away from the University by shuttle bus or taxi.

A precinct University, the departments, libraries and halls of residence are situated within the city, not on a separate campus. Most University buildings are within easy walking distance of each other and Bristol’s city centre and other attractions, for example, the City Art Gallery, the historic docklands and the green parks of Clifton Down.
