Immigration applications under Tier 4 (Students)
Source - UK Council for International Student Affairs
The new immigration system for students comes into force at midnight on 30 March 2009. If you are planning to apply for entry clearance (a 'visa') to come to the UK to study, or if you are already in the UK and need more time as a student, you should know that some elements of the new scheme are very different from the current (pre-31 March 2009) immigration system for students.
* the funds that you have to show to meet the maintenance requirements are quite large fixed amounts and you must provide evidence that you have had the required amount in a bank account that is in your name for at least 28 days at the time you apply. * Evidence of your course offer must be in the form of a Visa Letter issued by your institution. It must contain specific information. If you have an offer letter dated before 31 March 2009, check with your institution if you can use it to apply for immigration permission on or after 31 March * You must fill in the application form fully and correctly and include all the required documents, evidence and payment – nothing less and nothing more. If you do not follow the exact instructions your application is likely to be refused or rejected as invalid.

New immigration fees announced

The Government has announced its proposed new immigration fees. * Entry clearance (visas) for Tier 4 will cost £145, and each dependant pays the same. If you want to extend your stay in the UK under Tier 4, it will cost £357 by post or £565 in person, plus £50 per dependant. *
Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) applications will also become more expensive. Entry clearance from abroad will cost £265, and each dependant pays the same. If you want to apply in the UK, it will cost £500 by post or £700 in person, plus £50 per dependant.
